Taste of the Town

The Auxiliary's signature event

The 27th Annual Taste of the Town Raised $60k for Lowell General Hospital Patients and Services

Over 365 guests enjoyed the Merrimack Valley's finest culinary creations at the annual Taste of the Town held at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center on Sunday, October 27, 2013.

"The success was made possible by the dedicated woman of the Auxiliary board, the volunteers and the wonderful restaurants," said Mary Bennett, Lowell General Auxiliary President. "The talented chefs never cease to amaze guests with the wide variety of impressive foods and beautiful table presentations. The evening is a wonderful event where residents come together to enjoy a night out while supporting the services that Lowell General provides to the community."

The festivities included the Parade of Chefs, a live auction and eighteen raffle baskets. The evening's most popular auction item, generously donated by Trinity EMS, was "A Chanler Christmas in Newport, RI" with accommodations for two nights at The Chanler Hotel, a Chanler Christmas ornament and two tickets to visit one of the Newport mansions decorated for the holidays. Attendees voted on their favorite tasting dishes, naming participating restaurants and caterers as "People's Choice Award" winners, including:

  • Best Appetizer: Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki on Sea Salt Wontons with Three Sauces by Moonstones
  • Best Entrée: Braised Short Ribs Served over Whipped Potatoes and Finished with Horseradish Cream by Burtons Grill
  • Best Dessert: Panna Cotta di Caramello with Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Almond Praline and Salted Caramel by L'Andana

Lowell General Hospital's Sodexo boasted a beautiful Seafood Crostini Sampler made up of lobster, crab, and shrimp, as well as a beautiful table presentation of oyster shooters. "This was a wonderful event for us, and the first time we have all worked together as a team since we joined together with the Saints campus," said Keith Schultz, Sodexo Food and Nutrition Manager. "Our chefs from both campuses developed a beautiful appetizer menu together that received raves from attendees."

In addition to the "People's Choice Awards", the Auxiliary presented the Chairmen's Choice Award, a prize for the best table presentation and décor, to Tuscan Kitchen.

The Lowell General Hospital Auxiliary would like to thank the fifteen participants for their hard work and generosity: Bianco's Catering, Burtons Grill, The Capital Grille, Cobblestones, Frederick's Pastries, Grazie (Four Oaks), I Dream of Jeanne Cakes, L'Andana Restaurant, Moonstones, Napa East, Ricardo's Trattoria, Sodexo, Tuscan Kitchen, Two Chefs are Better Than One and UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center.
