Lowell General offers surgical services across a wide range of specialties including the following:
General Surgery
General surgery is a broad specialty with a number of subspecialties that focus on a specific type of procedure or area of the body. General surgery ranges from the routine removal of a small lesion or growth to advanced minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery. While many plan for a surgery, other times it is unexpected. Take comfort in knowing that Lowell General's surgical teams are able to handle all types of general surgery with an anesthesia team available around the clock and a surgical nursing team to support them.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery – also referred to as endoscopic, laparoscopic, arthroscopic or “keyhole” surgery – is performed using tiny instruments to operate inside the body. A minimally invasive technique is now the preferred surgical approach for many conditions, including cancer, heart disease and orthopedic issues, with ongoing advances each year as technology evolves.
Robotic-Assisted Surgery
The da Vinci® Surgical System at Lowell General Hospital provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon's hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. The da Vinci System enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.
Bariatric Surgery
Under the comprehensive Center for Weight Management we offer gastric bypass and laproscopic banding surgery as a surgical weight loss method for those who are morbidly obese. The surgeons who specialize in these procedures have completed more than 800 successful surgeries. For more information about this type of surgery, please contact the Center for Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery.
