The Sports Medicine Unit was established and exists as an orthopedic service to Lowell General Hospital's patient population, the hospital's physicians and surgeons, and the nursing and technical staff, by providing orthopedic technical assistance, resource information, and direct patient care. The Sports Medicine Department provides comprehensive orthopedic care to the adult and pediatric patients who live in the Greater Lowell area and surrounding communities. We work collaboratively with other departments in the hospital in need of orthopedic services as well as the community of orthopedic specialists and other physicians in the service area.
The Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Department is available at two locations to serve you:
- The Lowell General Main Campus at 295 Varnum Avenue in Lowell, located on the ground floor of the new Dahod Building, accessible through the first main entrance on the right as you enter the hospital campus.
- The Lowell General Chelmsford Campus at 10 Research Place in North Chelmsford.

Monday through Friday
7:00am-7:00pm
Saturday
8:00am-12:00pm (noon)
Emergency orthopedic care available 24 hours-a-day.
Please take advantage of our new amenities, including valet parking, available Monday-Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm. There is also parking available in the front parking lot and in the garage if you choose.
Chelmsford Campus
Monday through Friday
9:00am-3:00pm
The Sports Medicine Department provides services in the following, but is not limited to:
- Cast Applications
- Braces
- Splints
- Orthopedic Supports
- Simple Orthotics
- Dressings
- Suture and Staple Removal
- Crutch/Cane/Walker Training
- Traction Services
- Direct Surgical Assistance

Sports Medicine appointments are scheduled through the Central Scheduling Department, as well as by the referring orthopedic surgeon or their office. In emergency cases, scheduling and registration may be performed by Emergency Room staff. Patients are to register with the main hospital or Surgery Center before being seen by our orthopedic technicians.
Our goal is to offer the highest quality orthopedic care by providing our services in an efficient manner, utilizing every available resource necessary to achieve this.
