Primary Angioplasty

The Most Effective Treatment for a Heart Attack

Recent studies have shown primary (emergency) angioplasty to be the most effective treatment available for heart attack emergencies - but timing is critical to a patient's long-term success.

Until recently, patients requiring emergency angioplasty had to be transported to an out-of-area facility, taking up valuable time, which experts agree decreases a patient's chance of survival. In August of 2004, Lowell General Hospital became the first community hospital north of Boston to provide primary (emergency) angioplasty services. Area residents now have the most advanced method of treating a heart attack, available just minutes from home.
