Lowell Resident Thankful for Cancer Care Received Locally

Lowell resident Jodi Ahern is lacing up her sneakers and getting ready for a hopeful and inspiring day. She and her team - Sicards Seeking a Cure - will be participating in TeamWalk for CancerCare in honor of someone very special this year. Her team will be walking for Ahern's mom, 59-year-old Mary Lou Sicard, now undergoing cancer treatment at the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center.

Mary Lou was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2012 but the prognosis looks good for a full recovery. And her daughter Jodi has been very impressed with her mother's expert care and the staff at the Cancer Center.

"They are a special group of people; they made us feel like family. It's not just about the patients; it's about supporting the whole family and making sure everyone is okay - emotionally too. We have a feeling of comfort that her team is right there for us."

Sicards Seeking a Cure has over 20 registered walkers who have raised over $6,500 and counting toward the cause. Jodi and her team are very dedicated, in part because they like that the funds raised at TeamWalk stay right in the local community, making a difference in the lives of today's cancer patients. Jodi is thankful that her mom has benefited from world class cancer care right here in her own backyard.
