Jamie Masson

Young Survivor Shares Story to Help Raise Awareness

Jamie Masson underwent a double mastectomy as a result of breast cancer back in 2010. The Salem resident and mother was just 30 years old at the time. Having a longtime association with Lowell General Hospital (she and her son were both born there), there was no question where she would receive treatment. The world-class cancer center would be convenient and she knew the care would be exceptional.

"Everyone was amazing; my surgeon was unbelievable," notes Masson. "The care is very personalized - they truly have your best interests at heart."

Masson's son, now 6, will walk with her and her team "Treasured Chest" in this year's annual fundraising event on May 19th at the Tsongas Center in Lowell. Masson was looking for a cancer charity to support and figured it would be best to give back to the hospital that provided her with such great care. Since all the money from TeamWalk stays local and helps cancer patients' right in this community, the choice was an easy one.

Masson hopes sharing her story will bring more awareness to this local resource and get the community to rally around the cause by participating or donating to a team.

Masson says she felt really at home there and was impressed with the level of care for patients - before, during, and after their treatment. This will be the first year of participation for Team Treasured Chest, who is hoping to raise $1,500.
