The Oncology Social Work Department

For people diagnosed with cancer, an oncology social worker is an important member of the healthcare team, helping them navigate the health care system and find support to manage the day-to-day challenges of living with cancer. This includes: providing counseling, educational/informational services, discharge and home care planning services and referrals to community resources for people with cancer, their families and friends. Here at the Cancer Center three (3) social workers are oncology certified through The Board of Oncology Social Work Certification. We also offer extensive case management services.

Our Department of Oncology Social Work follows cancer patients throughout the trajectory of cancer care beginning with the diagnosis through their treatment outcome. We follow and support both the inpatient and outpatient population. We assess all patients who begin chemo/radiation. We assist patients/families to best navigate this complex medical system.
