Community Supporters of Lowell General Hospital Tee-off at The International

Annual LGH Challenge Golf Tournament Raises Over $241,000

September 9, 2009 - Lowell, Mass. - Supporters and friends of Lowell General Hospital raised more than $241,000 to support the hospital's capital expansion and renovation project, The Legacy Project, at the 14th Annual LGH Challenge Golf Tournament held on August 31st.

Golfers enjoyed the challenging terrain of The Pines course at The International in Bolton, MA for the first time in the history of this tournament. Ranked as the longest course in the world, and one of the most challenging in the U.S., golfers, supporters, and friends of Lowell General also enjoyed luxurious amenities to round out the day, including a barbecue on the course, spa offerings, and special contests and gifts.

Masters sponsors this year included: Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Demoulas Foundation, and Trinity EMS, Inc. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Legacy Fund; the historic capital campaign for the expansion of Lowell General Hospital. This expansion will provide a new Emergency and Trauma Department, expanded Ambulatory Care and Surgical space, and a six-floor tower for much needed private, patient rooms. New parking facilities, and upgraded HVAC unit, and utility plant construction are also part of the project.

"The needs of today's patients continue to change, and we are committed to providing quality services, medical technology, and facilities to meet the increasing healthcare needs of our community," said hospital president and chief executive officer, Normand E. Deschene. "The entrepreneurial and philanthropic spirit shown today will help positively impact medical services available to our community far into the future."
