Lowell General Hospital President and CEO Named Chair-Elect of Massachusetts Hospital Association

Normand DescheneLowell General Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and President, Normand E. Deschene, FACHE, was recently sworn in as Chair-Elect of the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) for the 2010-2011 term. A long-standing and active member of the MHA, Mr. Deschene previously served as Treasurer.

The Massachusetts Hospital Association is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization comprised of hospitals and health systems, related organizations, and other members with a common interest in promoting the health of the people of the Commonwealth. Through leadership in public advocacy, education, and information, MHA represents and advocates for the collective interests of its member hospitals and health systems, and supports their efforts to provide high quality, cost effective, and accessible care.

Mr. Deschene holds a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor's degree from Providence College. A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), he has served as Massachusetts’ regent to the College and was named ACHE "Massachusetts Healthcare Executive of the Year" in 2006.

Mr. Deschene is an active member of the American Hospital Association, Hospital Financial Management Association, and Healthcare Management Association of Massachusetts. He also serves as a member of the Executive Committee of Voluntary Hospitals of America Northeast. Mr. Deschene was appointed by the Governor of Massachusetts to the Goddard Council, advising upon the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math curriculum for the Commonwealth, is a member of the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety Expert Panel in Obstetrics, and chairs the Advisory Committee to the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s College of Health and the Environment.

Locally, Mr. Deschene serves as a trustee of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Lowell, a board member of the American Textile Museum and The Lowell Plan, and serves on the executive committee of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council.
