American Association of Critical-Care Nurses recognizes Lowell General Hospital with Beacon Award for Excellence

Beacon Award for Excellence honors top hospital units that employ evidence-based practices to improve patient, family outcomes and align those practices with AACN's Healthy Work Environment Standards

Lowell General Hospital was recently awarded a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) at the organization's National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Boston. The AACN recognized 98 units from 78 hospitals nationwide that earned the Beacon Award for Excellence. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses presents this national award with gold, silver and bronze designations that mark a specific type of achievement within a healthcare organization.

Staff members from the Lowell General Hospital Intensive Care Unit were honored as silver-level recipients of the Beacon Award for Excellence at the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Boston.This designation is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and a healthy work environment. This award allows caregivers to be recognized for their services that positively affect and improve patient outcomes proven by evidence-based practices. The ICU at Lowell General Hospital exemplifies excellence in professional practice, patient care and outcomes. Receiving this award is a great honor and product of Lowell General Hospital's promise to deliver Complete connected careSM to its community.

Silver-level recipients, such as Lowell General Hospital's ICU, demonstrate continuous learning and effective systems to achieve optimal patient care. Beacon-designated units meet evidence-based practice criteria in five categories that are consistent with criteria for national awards, including Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and National Quality Healthcare Award. Units that receive the Beacon designation demonstrate practices that align with AACN's Healthy Work Environment Standards for optimal care.

AACN President Kathryn Roberts, RN, MSN, CNS, CCRN, CCNS, praised the exemplary efforts of the unit caregivers who achieved the Beacon Award for Excellence. "The caregivers in these units are healthcare professionals committed to the best in patient care," Roberts said.

The recipients of this designation are extraordinary groups that work together to meet and exceed the high standards set forth by the Beacon Award for Excellence. Almost 100 units met the stringent criteria for the Beacon Award for Excellence in the last year which shows the commitment level of caregivers.
