Cancer Risk Assessment Program at The Cancer Center at Lowell General

Unfortunately, there is no crystal ball able to predict whether you may get cancer. However, the Cancer Risk Assessment Program, including Genetic Testing and Counseling - now available at The Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital - can give you and your doctor valuable information to make decisions that could help prevent cancer, or lead to early, more treatable detection.

For the first time, people who have had cancer or have a family history of the disease, can receive cancer risk assessment - which may include genetic counseling and testing - through The Cancer Center at Lowell General, in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Cancer Center's Center for Cancer Risk Assessment.

Murat A. Anamur"Recent discoveries in cancer research now make it possible to detect genetic mutations that can lead to specific types of cancer. This finding allows doctors to treat such cancers more effectively, and it helps them identify other family members who are at risk," explains Murat Anamur, M.D., Medical Director of the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital. "We are honored to be able to bring such leading-edge services to Lowell through our relationship with Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center."

The partnership between The Cancer Center at Lowell General and the MGH Cancer Center underscores their shared vision to ensure access to reliable specialty care, close to home.

"Lowell General Hospital is a respected and valued health care resource for its community," says Thomas J. Lynch, MD, chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital. "We appreciate the opportunity to work with them toward the common goal of ensuring that the highest quality health care - from preventive services to specialized tertiary services - continues to be accessible and available to patients and families in the Greater Lowell area."
