Star Performer, Tammy Kiernan"Dedicated, sincere, and the glue that holds the unit together," is how co-workers describe Tammy Kiernan of Inpatient Services, our November Star Performer of the Month.

Tammy is an Administrative Assistant for Inpatient Services, which includes the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), and the Medical/Surgical Units (MS2 and MS3). A valued member of the LGH family for over 25 years, she began her career in 1981 in the

Payroll Department, and joined the Inpatient Services team two years ago. In her role, she gives "right hand support" to Sally Vail, Director of Inpatient Services, as well as the Clinical Managers. She has taken on a major responsibility for staffing in the medical/surgical areas, and is responsible for payroll, clinical reports, and other administrative duties.

"Tammy embodies all the characteristics of a Star Performer," says Director Sally Vail. "She is diligent in ensuring the unit is staffed appropriately, and is known for always greeting co-workers and physicians with a warm smile. Her strong words of encouragement for the team motivate the staff to be the best they can be."

Tammy's co-workers on MS3 echo this strong team commitment. "As soon as MS3 has a need, her fingers hit the phone on our behalf," says co-worker Bernice Glaude, RN. Bernice says that Tammy played an integral role in keeping the floor staffed and running smoothly during MS3's conversion to ELMER. "All staff members know they can go to her with any issue at any time. Even if she's doing ten different things, she'll dig in and help," says Bernice.

Tammy lives in Lowell with her husband Jay, who is Facilities Supervisor at LGH. She loves to spend time with her family vacationing in Vermont and playing with her two grandchildren.
