Emergency & Urgent Care Services

The Emergency Departments at Lowell General Hospital's Main Campus and Saints Campus have Emergency Medicine and Surgical specialists available around-the-clock to care for patients experiencing serious acute illness and traumatic injuries.

We strive to provide the right care, at the right time, at the right cost. For non-life threatening conditions and other ailments that require prompt medical attention, our Urgent Care centers are staffed with experienced urgent care physicians from Merrimack Valley Emergency Associates who are available onsite during operating hours.

Urgent Care Centers

We have two Urgent Care Centers, one in Lowell and the other in Westford. Both locations serve children, adolescents, adult and older adult patients with convenient, accessible care without an appointment.

Urgent Care is a great alternative when injury or illness is not severe enough to require a visit to the emergency department, or when your primary care physician (PCP) or pediatrician is unavailable. We are here to assist and will communicate with your doctor to ensure that any needed follow-up care is coordinated. Prescriptions are electronically sent to your pharmacy of choice for your convenience.

Emergency Care Can Save Your Life

At Lowell General, our highly trained staff is ready to help with even the most serious illnesses and traumas. In fact, Lowell General Hospital's Main Campus has been verified as a Levell III Trauma Center.

If you have any of the following symptoms, dial 911, and seek medical attention immediately:

  • Chest pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe burns
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Sudden slurred speech or an unsteady gait

When seconds count you can be confident in receiving emergency services and advanced critical care minutes from home.

Here When You Need Us

When moments count, Lowell General Hospital's Emergency Departments offer immediate care when you need it.

Qualified trauma surgeons and physicians, specially trained in critical care, clinical emergencies, cardiac methods and advanced cardiac support are available to provide the most comprehensive emergency care possible. We also have staff available in surgery, anesthesia, radiology, cardiology, internal medicine, gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, neurology, and orthopedics, as well as other medical specialties including on-site Primary Angioplasty.

Our Emergency Departments offer convenience, efficiency, and comfort. They include specialized areas for cardiac care; ear, nose and throat disorders; orthopedic injuries and casting, mental health and an area for complete examinations. Additionally, state-of-the-art diagnostic services are available for assessment and diagnosis 24/7. A family area is provided for private discussion.

Patients requiring serious, highly specialized emergency care may be transported to our affiliate Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, via a MedFlight helicopter or in an Advanced Life Support Ambulance (ALS).

For routine health matters and check-ups, patients should contact their primary care physician. Regular check-ups with a primary care physician are the best prescription for good health.
