Diego Demelo, RN

Intensive Care Unit, Saints Campus

"The true test of a person's star power is how they act when the hospital is busy and stress levels rise. These are the moments that patients need us the most", says Tracie McPadden, RN. "Diego works very hard to ensure that his patients receive high quality care in a safe and soothing environment."

Diego started working at the Lowell General Saints campus in 2005 as a Patient Care Technician on 3E. He went on to become a licensed practical nurse and then a registered nurse. He has worked in the Intensive Care Unit for three years. The staff in the ICU cannot say enough about Diego's willingness to go the extra mile. He is always ready to help out by swapping days with another nurse, staying late to assist with a patient or floating to the ED to care for patients needing expert critical care nursing.

The staff members in the ICU were asked to care for an IMC patient, and Diego made the transfer of this patient to ICU a priority. He handed off his charge role and floated out to IMC to support their staffing needs. His words were simple, "Let's just do it." Because of that, the patient was able to get the care he needed and was moved into a quiet and comfortable room.

Diego lives in Dracut and enjoys beach time in the summer, spending time with his family and reading.

Congratulations Diego! You're a Star!
