MaryEllen Thorne, RN

Mary Ellen Thorne"Calm, compassionate, knowledgeable, and remarkable" is how co-workers describe MaryEllen Thorne, our October Star Performer of the Month. She has been a registered nurse at Lowell General for over 35 years, currently working in the Endoscopy Unit.

Denise Roy, RN, Surgical Services Liaison says, "MaryEllen works tirelessly and constantly goes above and beyond to serve our patients and their families. In her nursing role at Lowell General, MaryEllen plays a dual role, in both endoscopy and as a PICC (vascular IV line) nurse. She seamlessly transitions between both services to ensure we provide Complete connected care to our patients."

MaryEllen has been known to stay late in order to assist her department and their patients. After a recent gastrointestinal procedure, she had finished her shift, but heard the on-call PICC nurse had three urgent cases. She volunteered to help her fellow nurse with the lines as she knew it would take several hours to complete them. When she finished, she was asked to start another PICC line for a new patient and then proceeded to stay and assist the physician with the patient's gastrointestinal case.

MaryEllen lives in Nashua, NH with her husband. They have two children, Jason and Tami. In her spare time, she is an avid bowler and has been bowling for over 50 years. She is also a bowling coach and enjoys country cross stitch.
