Jan Strom"She excels in her job while flying under the radar... and gets it all done without a hitch," is how co-workers describe the dedication of Jan Strom, our December Star Performer of the Month.

Jan began her career at LGH in 2008 as administrative secretary for Cardiac Services. In her role, she wears many hats, as she assists nurses and echocardiogram technicians, books patient appointments, and assists in the Anticoagulation Clinic in Chelmsford one day a week. She is known for her dependability, flexibility, and her "I can do that or I don't mind doing that for you" mindset that makes her a true asset to our patients, especially on the busiest of days.

"Jan will always take on extra duties, and her communication skills are second to none," says Erin D'Arcangelo, RN, Anticoagulation charge nurse. Instead of handing off charts to the nurses, she thinks ahead and gets all the information needed to present to our care team. She is very thorough, always open to discuss change in workflows, and brings her own ideas to the table.

"Jan brings this caring attitude to all she does, no matter what department she is working in that day. For example, she has even come in on a scheduled vacation day to help staff with coverage. Even though she only works at the Anticoagulation clinic part time, staff members praise her team-player attitude, and remark that everything runs as smooth and efficient as if she was there every day of the week.

Jan lives in Billerica with her husband Todd, has two daughters, and several cats that she helps rehabilitate and foster from the Lowell Humane Society. Not only does she give it her all here at work, she makes a difference for our animal friends as well through her volunteer efforts with the Lowell TNR cat rescue group.
