Lauren Tobiassen

"She can tackle any challenge with her positive attitude, which gives her patients the strength to overcome any obstacle." This is how co-workers describe Lauren Tobiassen, OT, our October Star Performer of the Month.

Lauren began her career at LGH over 12 years ago on the former Transitional Care Unit (now MS2). As an inpatient occupational therapist she helps patients throughout the entire hospital regain their ability to perform tasks in living and working environments. These patients often suffer from a physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling condition, such as an acute stroke or bad injury. She assists patients in developing and recovering daily skills to improve basic motor functions or to help them compensate for permanent loss of function.

"Whether it's an orthopedic post-op patient that has to learn new techniques to perform a simple task, or one trying to cope with a chronic disease or bad injury, she treats all with a high degree of compassion and respect. She is a strong advocate for their wellbeing. She lets them know she wants them to succeed and that she truly cares about them," says Jill Sutherland, RN, MS2.

Lauren mirrors this sense of caring to her co-workers throughout the hospital, giving 100% in everything she does with great enthusiasm and motivation. She is always willing to help out with patient transfers, is a member of the MS2 unit-based practice council, and serves on the Ethics Committee. She welcomes the opportunity to train new staff and student nurses on proper body mechanics and safe transfer techniques and ergonomics. An avid baker, she is always treating her LGH friends to special homemade treats.

Lauren lives in Townsend with her husband Todd and two dogs Harley and Daisy. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, kayaking, quilting, and cooking.
