CEO's Message

Normand E. DescheneDear Friends,

This is truly an exciting time for Circle Health. As we work to deliver on our promise to provide Complete connected careSM to our community, we are continuing to develop new and innovative ways to personalize the care we provide to every patient or visitor to each Circle Health organization. Over the course of the last year, we have transformed the experience at Lowell General Hospital and we are excited to bring those same values to all of our Circle Health members and affiliated organizations through upcoming training and education programs for staff. Our goal is to seamlessly coordinate your care – and your experience – so that we are exceeding your expectations at each and every opportunity. We know this is an ambitious goal, especially in the complex world of healthcare. But thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our staff, physicians and volunteers, we know we can do it.

While the people throughout Circle Health continue to be our most valuable asset, we are also focused on transforming our delivery of care through the use of technology. This transformation has already occurred at the hospital level, through the implementation of a single electronic medical record (EMR) system back in early June. This work has provided a solid foundation as we work to extend our EMR to our physician network with the goal of providing streamlined connectivity to patient records at the physician office level. We have made great progress in this effort. In fact, Lowell General Hospital was recently recognized as one of the nation's Most Wired for the third consecutive year by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, an award that recognizes those organizations that exemplify progress through technological innovation.

We continue to grow and look for new ways to provide convenient access to care throughout Greater Lowell and neighboring communities. We recently united our pain management programs in a beautifully renovated space at our Lowell General Hospital Saints campus, allowing us to better care for the growing number of patients we serve with chronic pain. We have also nearly completed renovations to the Reilly 4 unit at the Saints Campus, which will soon provide 35 private rooms for our medical surgical patients when completed at the end of this month.

Our growth continues beyond the hospital's walls. We have also expanded services at our Lowell General North Andover site located at 203 Turnpike Street with the addition of a new Circle Health primary care practice, Primary Care of the Andovers. We are excited to welcome Doctors Nelson Matos, Yahaida Rimola-DeJesus, and the practice's staff, respected and compassionate caregivers with a long history in the greater Lawrence community. We also recently added a second office for our Center for Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery, and a new Patient Service Center, which will allow patients to have blood draws and other testing conveniently on site.

Planning is underway for a new Circle Health facility, which will open at 198 Littleton Road in Westford in early 2014. We have always provided healthcare for Westford residents, and we are excited to be able to offer key Circle Health and Lowell General Hospital services in this convenient new location. The new facility will feature a Circle Health Urgent Care Center, physician practices in obstetrics and gynecology and primary care, and a Lowell General Hospital Patient Service Center.

As we look forward to the fall season, we continue to work hard to improve the health of the communities we serve. During a recent community health needs assessment, conducted on behalf of Lowell General Hospital and the Greater Lowell Health Alliance, researchers conducted dozens of focus groups and individual interviews with key members of community organizations throughout Greater Lowell. The findings of this important study will provide valuable direction to Circle Health and many Greater Lowell community organizations in the months ahead.

We will host two interactive community forums to share the findings of the health assessment on the following dates:

  • Thursday, October 10 from 5:00–6:30pm at the Tewksbury Police Community Room, 918 Main Street, Tewksbury
  • Friday, October 11 from 9:00-10:30am at Roudenbush Community Center, 65 Main Street, Westford

We hope you will join us at these sessions to share your thoughts and help us continue to find new ways to improve the health of our community. Thank you for your support as we work to make Circle Health one of the best integrated health systems in America.

In good health,

Normand Deschene
